Transformative Tools for San Francisco Moms

Updated: Oct 29

Groceries, Babysitting, Medication All Delivered To Your Home

If you are like me, a recent transplant to the city managing the care of my daughter who is battling Leukemia. Before living in the city, trips to the grocery store were easier. Less people, less lines, bagged groceries, and help to your car. Living in San Francisco I found myself absolutely dreading the grocery store and the pharmacy like the plague. Mask mandates were still enforced when we moved here, and my daughter was in the throws of chemotherapy, forcing us to isolate, even my other children. Waiting in line to get food or desperately needed medications were just infuriating.

Here are the Tried and True Tools I have come rely on to avoid the insanity of waiting in line.

  1. Amazon Fresh | I love this site as you can order fresh fruit and vegetables for same day delivery with your Prime Membership-

  2. (Bonus! Get Grub Hub membership with Prime!) They offer teen accounts and family sharing- so its great for sending your college kid some groceries to their new home off campus.

    1. Order groceries to be delivered at home from Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods, and more using your EBT card. Click here to connect your EBT card to your Amazon account.

  3. Instacart | Use code: DDILLMAN1F83A for $10 off your first order

    1. Obviously this has been around forever now, but now you can also use your EBT at many stores on this site, Safeway being one of them. I love this because I can group my recipe ingredients into shopping lists, and when I'm super organized, I can just meal plan from my own recipes and create a shopping list. Here is a sample of my ingredient list for my oldest son's favorite peanut butter pie, the recipe is essentially Ree Drummand's recipe, but city-school-fied. Now you can serve this amazing desert at a school event in SF and not worry that you will have people who can't eat it. Substitute chunky peanut butter into the traditional recipe if you like my style, or go Vegan and Nut-Free and use coconut whipped topping, non-dairy cream cheese, and sunflower butter instead of peanut or almond butter.

  4. Alto Pharmacy | Get you medication delivered right to your door!

    1. This changed my life as a Mom of five kids one of whom is battling Leukemia. No more driving all over the city trying to find the Walgreens pharmacy that will fill her meds while she is needing to sleep more than anything else. Don't go out if you or your kids feel unwell!

    2. Alto serves San Francisco and many other major cities including Seattle and Houston. STOP WAITING IN LINE FOR MEDICATIONS!

  5. Subscribe & Save on Amazon | Save time by scheduling your home basics for delivery!

    1. Started with kleenex with lotion due to my crazy allergies since moving to San Francisco (read about why allergies get worse in urban areas here) and now everything we need for the household is scheduled and I don't run out of toilet paper!

  6. Urban Sitter | Book babysitting and housekeeping online with background checking done!
